Starting with Method One, go through the methods below to troubleshoot the issue. Hopefully by the end of the final method you should have the error code resolved.

Here are the top methods for addressing Windows Error Code 10:

Method One:  Restart Your PC

This is a simple troubleshooting method that can often work a lot more than people may think. Sometimes drivers simply stop responding so this is a great method to refresh everything. Follow the steps below to restart your PC properly.

  • Unplug the device that is currently not working
  • Turn off your PC by clicking the shut down option in the Start Menu
  • Turn your PC back on by pressing the physical power button
  • Once the PC has booted into Windows, re-insert the device

Method Two:  Update Drivers Via Windows

Whilst the device manager tool in Windows isn’t perfect, it can be used to quickly resolve issues with your current devices. If restarting your PC did not resolve the issue, you may want to attempt to quickly update your drivers via the device manager feature found within the operating system. To do this, follow the steps below carefully.

  • Open the Start Menu
  • Search for and open ‘Device Manager’
  • In the device manager window, search for your device or hardware
  • Right click the device and click ‘properties’
  • In the driver tab in the new window, click Update Driver…
  • Click ‘Search Automatically for updated driver software
  • Let the automated process finish
  • Hopefully a driver should be installed and you’ll now be able to use your device

Method Three:  Download And Install Drivers Online

A lot of hardware for Windows should work as soon as you plug it in, but in some cases you will need to install hardware from the internet. To do this, simply search for your product driver in Google. For example, for the Steelseries Rival mouse, we searched for ‘Steelseries Rival Driver.’

The manufacturer should provide downloads on their website. You’ll need to visit their website to find, download and install the necessary driver files.

Once you’ve found the correct your files, your device should be able to operate correctly.
