If Microsoft Can’t Upgrade your Computer to Windows 10, You’ll Get a Free Dell Laptop

Microsoft’s free Windows 10 upgrade offer ends on July 31, 2016. In the final 2 weeks of the offer, Microsoft is pulling out all the stops to convince you to update.

But this latest marketing ploy is the best we’ve seen so far: if Microsoft can’t update your laptop to Windows 10 with same-day service, then you’ll receive a free Dell Inspiron 15 laptop.

As you probably guessed, there are some asterisks beside the free laptop rule. First and most importantly, you must be using a computer that’s compatible with Windows 10 in the first place.

However, even if you don’t have a Windows 10-compatible device, Microsoft will still give you $150 off the purchase of a new PC (although there are rules to this one as well).

The other rule is that your PC must be given to the authorized Microsoft retailer at noon on the day the service is to be performed. You might also have trouble finding a retailer that offers this program, as not all retailers of Microsoft devices are participating.

Nevertheless, this is a great offer for those of you who still haven’t updated to Windows 10. You could take the chance that your PC fails to update, or it just takes a while. You could also do something sleazy – like mess around with your clocking to deliberately slow down your PC or fill up your hard drive to the brim to make sure any update takes ages to perform. I’m not saying you should do that to mess up the same-day service guarantee and get a free laptop – but hey, Microsoft certainly has a lot of money to play with.
