Top 5 Best Games to Push your New Graphics Card to the Limit in 2016

Did you just get a new GTX 1080? What about a 1070? Or a RX 480? In any case, you just bought a new graphics card and now you want to push that card to the limit.

Which games do you play first? Today, we’re listing our top 5 favorite games that will push your new graphics card to the limit in 2016.

1) The Witcher 3

The Witcher 3 is one of the best and most beautiful-looking games ever made. In 1440p, it looks amazingly close to real life. The sunny skies, green grass, and distant (but explorable) mountains really come to life on a good graphics card. Play The Witcher 3 with your new card and just run around the world marveling at what you see. You won’t regret it (even if you’re not a big RPG fan).

Want to push your video card even further? Install Wild Hunt, which is the recently-released expansion for The Witcher 3.

2) Hitman

There’s a big debate about Hitman among PC gamers. Some say the graphics are so ahead of its time that it won’t run smoothly maxed out until years into the future. Others say that it’s just not well-optimized.

In any case, it’s obvious to us that Hitman looks really good. On a new graphics card, where you can max it out at 1440p, the beauty of Hitman really starts to come through.

Even on new graphics cards, like the GTX 1080, users have still complained that they can’t max out the game and have it run smoothly at 60fps – so this is a benchmark we’ll likely see for years into the future as well.

3) Crysis 3

You can look at lists like this from 10 years ago and see the original Crysis listed as a game to push your graphics card to the limit. Crysis games have always been a great way to benchmark a new card, and Crysis 3 – even though it’s a little old – is still a great one to play. Even last-generation graphics cards can run Crysis 3 smoothly maxed out at 1440p, but it still looks really good even years after its release.

If you want to give your new graphics card a break after running The Witcher 3 and Hitman, then Crysis 3 is a well-deserved vacation. It’s cool to see your new graphics card chew up a game like this and spit it out so easily.

4) Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V puts a huge strain on any rig. Maxed out on the highest graphic settings, it won’t exactly make your new graphics card cry, but it will certainly test its mettle. The game looks amazing maxed out.

Like The Witcher 3, you can experience the best of GTA V’s graphics just by wandering around in the open world. Fly around, marvel at the view from the highest peak, and enjoy the living, breathing world of GTA V maxed out at its highest settings.

Or, you know, just go to the in-game strip club.

5) Elite: Dangerous (Virtual Reality)

One of the best ways to take advantage of a new graphics card is to buy a virtual reality headset – like the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive. Yes, I know you just spent several hundred dollars on your video card, so you might have to wait for your credit card bill to clear. But still. You’re not taking full advantage of your video card until you experience virtual reality.

And if you’re going to play one VR game that pushes your video card to the limits, it should be Elite: Dangerous, which looks fantastic but is still capable of running at the recommended 90fps on modern graphics cards (you’ll pretty much need 90fps on your video cards to avoid nausea issues).
